Russ Covington has nearly 20 years of experience in industrial engineering management, operations management, supply chain operations consulting, and optimizing customer solutions. He graduated from Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) in 2000 with a BS of Industrial Engineering degree and gained invaluable hands-on experience while working as a consultant for Delta Airlines & Pak-Lite Industries during his senior year of college. Russ began his professional career as a full-time Industrial Engineer supporting plant operations and formulating cost proposals for a contract manufacturer of electrical wiring assemblies in Woodstock, GA named Roytec Industries, who hired him after being impressed by his prior work as a senior IE internship. He earned his MBA degree from Kennesaw State University by taking night courses while still working full-time at Roytec and following the completion of his MBA in 2004, he also served as an adjunct Professor for the Industrial Engineering Technology department at his alma mater, SPSU. In 2005, Russ joined EIS-Fabrico, a division of Genuine Parts Corporation, where he served as the Estimating Engineering Manager owning full responsibility for the timely completion of custom cost proposals as requested by 37 EIS sales offices across North America.
In 2006, Russ sought to diversify his career by shifting his focus towards distribution and supply chain operations so he joined Johnson Stephens Consulting (JSC) in Atlanta, GA. JSC provides supply chain focused services such as strategic network optimization, engineered productivity improvement, labor management systems, material handling equipment (MHE) systems planning, design, & implementation, warehouse management systems, site selection, and construction management for retail, wholesale, e-commerce, and 3PL companies. He spent over 11 years as a practice leader and project manager for JSC and thoroughly enjoyed being a key part of the company’s tremendous growth during this timeframe. Through his deep involvement in over 50 major projects as a consulting leader, Russ has gained a holistic view of the vast array of challenges that many organizations face in today’s demanding economic environment. Russell’s hands-on experience in aiding corporations such as The Home Depot, Neiman Marcus, Geodis, Kobelco, Bass Pro Shops, Bealls Inc., The Buckle, Blue Apron, Young Living Essential Oils, Gilt Groupe, Dollar Tree, Burlington Stores, Soft Surroundings, and The Black Tux through varying initiatives has clearly enriched his ability to develop effective yet economical solutions. He has also developed a vast network through working closely with his industry peers such as material handling equipment and supply chain software providers.
After welcoming two children into his family within the span of 16 months, Russ departed the consulting field in early 2017 and enjoyed managerial roles with DB Schenker, a global leader in 3rd Party Logistics (3PL) services, as a Sr. Manager for their Solutions team and with Toys”R”Us, as the Sr. Manager of Industrial Engineering where he provided engineering leadership for the entire IE team across eight (8) distribution centers nationwide. Having known Seth Weisberg and the ABCO Systems team since 2010 from mutual distribution center design and implementation project work, he jumped at the chance to formally join ABCO Systems when Seth called following the shutdown of Toys”R”Us. Russ brings a plethora of valuable skills to our team but his extensive experience in designing and implementing distribution & fulfillment centers for a wide variety of customers across diverse industries is a key value proposition that we encourage our customers to embrace. Russ Covington is genuinely excited to join forces with ABCO’s growing team and is eager to bring his people skills and his passion for customized solutions development to serve the needs of both existing and future customers alike. He enjoys sharing his experiences through both writing and public speaking and has served as a key speaker/moderator at several retail and e-commerce focused logistics and supply chain conferences so be on the lookout for some real-world insights that Russ will be sharing with our loyal followers in the coming months.
